To mark the 22nd Week of the Italian Language in the World, a full programme of events organised in cooperation with the Embassy of Italy in Zagreb is taking place. Lectures, theatre shows, readings, exhibitions and screenings have been organised throughout Croatia. The organisers are the Italian Cultural Institute in Zagreb, the Consulate General in Fiume, the Italian departments of Croatia’s universities, the Società Dante Alighieri committees and a number of state schools in Croatia where Italian is taught.
The Week opened with a lecture in Fiume on Italian young people’s slang. The speaker was Michele Cortellazzo, an Italian language lecturer at the University of Padua. In Zagreb, an event was held on the role of the younger generations in the work of Pier Paolo Pasolini, hosted by Maura Locantore, a PhD in Contemporary Italian Literature at the University of Basilicata.
The key event of the Week takes place on 19 October 2022 at the Italian Cultural Institute in Zagreb, with the award ceremony for the winners of the competition organised to mark the 22nd edition, entitled “L’italiano e i giovani”. The competition, which is open to works from the visual arts and film by high school and university students, attracted a particularly high number of participants this year.
