The Italy Pavilion opened at the 106th edition of the China Food and Drinks Fair (CFDF) of Chengdu. Co-curated by the Italian Consulate General in Chongqing and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in China, the 72 m2 space is situated inside Hall  6 of the New International Convention & Exposition Center del Chengdu Century City and hosts some of the most active local businesses in the import and distribution of Italian wines.

“I would like to thank the organisers of this history-making fair for dedicating to Italy such a commendable treatment”, said the Italian Consul General in Chongqing, Guido Bilancini. “The CFDF is unarguably one of the most prestigious and popular wine fairs not only of the province but also at national level and being here today testifies to the great importance that Italy attributes to the Chinese market, especially that of South-West China”, Bilancini added.

The Italian Consul went on: “For both wine-lovers and for those who try the product for the first time, Italian wine is synonymous of high quality, good quality-price ratio, variety, complexity and appeal.” Italy is currently the world’s top wine exporter and was China’s third largest wine supplier in 2021, with a market share of almost 10%. More specifically, last year the value of Italian wine exports to China increased by 43.72% (for a total of 165 million dollars). Also export volumes rose by 25.33% to 32 million litres. The ribbon-cutting ceremony was also attended by the representative of the ICE – Italian Foreign Trade Agency in Chengdu, Luigi Puca.
