The Province of Mecca has awarded Snamprogetti (Saipem Group) a contract worth 1.319 billion Saudi Riyals (about 263.8 million euros) to build a rainwater drainage system serving King Abdulaziz International Airport to the north of Jeddah.
The project will see the construction of a 56 km pipeline of around 3 metres in diameter; 3 outlets to the sea; numerous lateral conduits linking the main pipeline to the existing rainwater collection system; around 250 water collection tanks; and a collection channel with capacity of about 600,000 cubic metres.
Saipem’s contract is one of 8 projects (worth SR3.338 billion in total) designed to find a definitive solution to Jeddah’s rainwater drainage problems. A number of emergency projects were recently completed to cope with difficulties at times of high rainfall.
