Bosusco kidnapping: “The negotiations are on-going; we feel confident”. Italian marines: “We’re keeping up the pressure on the jurisdiction principle”

The negotiations for the release of Paolo Bosusco, the Italian hostage held by Maoists in India, “are making progress and we feel confident about the outcome”. These were the words of Minister Giulio Terzi, after reviewing with the Crisis Unit the situation of the ten Italian nationals held hostage abroad.

As regards the case of the two marines held in India, Terzi gave an assurance that “we intend to keep up the pressure and make every effort to reaffirm, first of all, the principle of jurisdiction. And also to find a pragmatic solution to bring our lads home”. The timescale to be followed is “with the greatest urgency possible”. In Kerala, “investigations are continuing on the ballistic evidence, as are the attempts to identify the weapons that could have fired the shots. In all honesty, they may not have belonged to the Italian contingent”, noted Terzi.
