Visit to Rome on 4 and 5 June for newly appointed French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius accompanied by Minister for European Affairs Bernard Cazeneuve, who will meet with President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano, Prime Minister Mario Monti, Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi and Minister for European Affairs Enzo Moavero Milanesi.

Preparatory mission for European Council

Fabius’ mission is preparatory to the European Council of 28 and 29 June and the upcoming mission to Italy by President of the French Republic Francois Hollande, who is expected in Rome on 22 June for a 4-way meeting with Monti, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President of the Spanish Government Mariano Rajoy. During their visit Fabius and Cazeneuve will also confront issues associated with the eurozone crisis and regenerating growth in Europe.

Also discussed will be the Middle East, the Mediterranean and the next bilateral summit with Italy, which is to be held in France in the autumn. Finally, the two French ministers will take the opportunity to reiterate France’s friendship and solidarity with Italy in the wake of the recent tragic earthquakes here.
