Farnesina leads the way on Twitter

The Farnesina is leading the way in Italian government Twitter accounts. The announcement was made by Twiplomacy, the leading global study of world leaders on Twitter.

“While maintaining a very institutional profile, the official Twitter account of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs @FarnersinaPress is probably the most dynamic, interactive and digitally-focused among all Italian institutional Twitter accounts”. The Foreign Ministry’s presence on Twitter includes the accounts of numerous Italian embassies and ambassadors.

The @Farnesinapress account was set up on 4 June 2012 under former Foreign Minister Giulio Terzi. Its most popular tweet was posted the day after the Boston bombing, announcing that the Consulate had set up two emergency numbers for Italians in the city at the time of the Marathon on 15 April 2013. The current foreign minister, Emma Bonino, also has an account, with about 40,000 followers.
