Oman: Italferr awarded Oman Rail design contract
The Italferr firm was awarded the contract for a preliminary design study and consulting services for the new Oman Rail linking southern and northern Oman as far as the Emirates. The first phase is to include 20 railway stations along 1,061 km of rail, from Khatmat Malahah, in the north, to the city of Duqm; the second phase, stretching to the border with Yemen, will add another 20 stations for a total rail line of 2,244 km. The goal is to link north with south and to create a multi-nodal transport system linking the main sea ports and industrial areas with the internal economic areas of Sohar, Salalah and Duqm, with a view toward the future integration of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
