“Destination Italy” launched – diplomatic network to contribute to attracting foreign investments, says Bonino

The government is set to launch the “Destination Italy Plan”, aimed at sending a strong signal to the world to invest in Italy, as Minister Emma Bonino explained in a press conference to illustrate the government-approved plan. She underscored that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has the advantage of being able to make an essential contribution to the plan’s success through its diplomatic network.

A way to facilitate and simplify foreign investments in our country that calls for 50 “very clean and simple” measures for resolving the more significant problems that foreign firms encounter coming into Italy.

Minister Bonino added that the network would be receiving a boost in several markets, such as China, with qualified and specialised staff, since “attracting investments is not the same thing as increasing exports”.

Pressing need for foreign investments

She also recalled that our country has a pressing need for foreign investments, which are currently “too low”, and confirmed the intention to do road shows in the principal world financial markets, with a first stop in New York and then on to the Gulf Countries.

Public consultation

For the time being, a public consultation is planned with institutional and government actors that will last from 2 to 3 weeks, the time necessary for all public and private actors wishing to contribute to do so. Adoption will come in October.
