Minister Bonino, along with the Head of the Private Office, Pietro Benassi, and the Director General for Resources and Innovation, Elisabetta Belloni, has met representatives of GLobe-MAE. The aim of themeeting was to open a dialogue to find an administrative solution to the obstacles that to date have prevented the Foreign Ministry’s homosexual employees living together in couples from receiving equal treatment to married couples. Minister Bonino expressed her full support for the initiative and her willingness to seek solutions to the practical problems experienced by the Ministry’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual (LGBT) employees.
The GLobe-MAE association
The GLobe-MAE association (www.globemae.it; email: info@globemae.it) was founded in December 2013, by and for the Foreign Ministry’s LGBT employees. Its aim is to assert the inviolable principle of Article 21 of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, which prohibits any discrimination based on sexual orientation. It also aims to promote, in collaboration with other Italian and international organisations, a culture inspired by equal opportunities and equal rights for LGBT individuals in the daily business of the Foreign Ministry and its offices.
