Caravaggio comes to the United States. Three celebrated masterpieces by the great Italian painter will be on display from 8 February to 6 April at the Muscarelle Museum of Art di Williamsburg: two versions of “St. Francis in Meditation” – one on loan from the Church of the Cappuccini in Rome and the other from the City of Carpineto Romano – and the “Buona Ventura” from the Capitoline Painting Gallery in Rome. “We mounted two major exhibitions at the Muscarelle in 2013”, commented Italian Ambassador to Washington Claudio Bisogniero, “one on Michelangelo and the other on Mattia Preti.
