DEI/Sole 24 Ore: Dubai: Strong Italian participation at Arab Health 2014

About 300 Italian companies took part in the latest edition of Arab Health. The fair, which was held in Dubai, is the Gulf’s most important trade event in the medical and pharmaceutical sector. Over 80,000 visitors from all of the world attended, while over 3,900 exhibitors from 64 countries took part. According to estimates by the RNCOS market research consultancy, health industry sales in the Emirates increased by 16% in 2011-14, to 14.6 billion dollars.

Factors driving the demand for new hospitals and specialist treatment centres include the increase in conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and cardio-vascular problems. In the Gulf countries as a whole, the need for cardiovascular treatment is expected to increase by 240% in the next 20 years. For diabetes, the projected increase is 320%. From an institutional perspective, the recent introduction of obligatory health care insurance for all residents of the country will act as a further driver of growth in the sector.
