The high-level presidential conference “Gender Equality in Europe: Unfinished Business? – Taking stock 20 years after the Beijing Platform for Action” is taking place in Rome on 23 and 24 October, within the framework of the Italian six-month presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The event is being held in the International Conference Room of the Farnesina Palace, headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
An agenda for women’s empowerment approved in 1995
The conference, organised by the Department of Equal Opportunity of the Office of the Prime Minister in collaboration with the European Commission, offers an opportunity to discuss a range of issues pertinent to the Beijing Platform for Action, an agenda for women’s empowerment approved in 1995 during the 4th World Conference on Women.
Conference participants include Italian and European political representatives as well as acknowledged experts from European and international academic spheres and esteemed members of civil society organisations. Its aim is to provide a broad overview of the current situation and identify the progress already made, existing gaps and future challenges in the area of equal opportunity.
