Dei/Sole 24 Ore – Turkey: Bridge over the Dardanelles will revitalise development for Çanakkale and Balıkesir

The Turkish Minister for the Environment and Town Planning has announced that the new bridge over the Dardanelles will connect Lapseki and Gelibolu, in Thrace.


The project is one of the pillars of the development plan for the provinces of Çanakkale and Balıkesir, a plan which also includes other important initiatives. These include the urban development and enhancement for tourism of the islands of Gökçeada and Bozcaada in the Aegean Sea and the construction of new industrial districts. To this end, the plan has identified an area of 4800 hectares at Bandırma.


According to projections, demographic growth and the region’s growing capacity to attract internal migration flows will increase its population from the current 1,654,000 to 4,578,000 by 2040. Source: infoMercatiEsteri
