Morocco: Italcementi opens solar heating plant
Italcementi recently opened a solar heating plant in Morocco that will help run the grinding plant of the Ait Baha cement works. It consists of three modules with a total surface of 6,000 square metres and maximum 3,800 KW of power, equivalent to approximately 1,000 MW of electrical power annually. The 36.5 million dirham (approximately EUR 3.3 million) cost was met through a 33 million-dirham (EUR 3 million) Italcementi investment, while the remaining share of 4.5 million dirham (approximately EUR 409,000) came from the Moroccan Institute for Solar and Renewable Energy Research IRESEN. This test of innovation technology will make use of locally available materials, and the new plant is Italcementi’s third renewable energy project in Morocco, after the wind power plants of Laayoune (EUR 9 million) and Safi (EUR 12million).
