Italy’s Anti-Mafia Directorate has just completed a 2-day mission to Russia led by prosecutor Giusto Sciacchitano, who was accompanied by deputy prosecutors Maria Vittoria De Simone and Carlo Caponcello. The Italian Embassy contributed to the successful outcome of the mission, which included a bilateral meeting with the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation. The two sides exchanged information on systems to combat organised crime, with a focus on drug trafficking, criminal assets, money laundering and people trafficking.

The delegation was also received by the Deputy Justice Minister, Maxim Travnikov. Both parties reiterated their intention to increase Russian-Italian cooperation in the judicial sector. This will be done at the bilateral level, under the agreement in place for 2014-15, and through multilateral initiatives like those implemented under the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime.
