Jakarta – Tribute to film director Luchino Visconti

A rich season of artistic and cultural events for 2016 kicked off in Jakarta with a screening of the uncut version of “Il Gattopardo” (“The Leopard”) by Luchino Visconti. The event was organised by the Italian embassy in the Indonesian capital and the Italian Institute of Culture, in collaboration with the Arkipel International Documentary and Experimental Film Festival. It will not be the only tribute to the great Italian cinema director: there will also be weekly showings of “Morte a Venezia” (“Death in Venice”), “La Terra Trema” (“The Earth Will Tremble”), and “Rocco e i suoi Fratelli” (“Rocco and His Brothers”).

In addition, a photographic exhibition dedicated to another example of Italian excellence will open Monday, January 11:

“The Vespa, a myth: history and stories”

“The Vespa, a myth: history and stories”, promoted by the Italian Institute of Culture in Jakarta,  will be held in the Institute’s Multifunctional Hall and run till January 23. It features  50 photographs by photojournalists and professional photographers of the Vespagraphy association and tells the story of the Vespa scooter in Italy and Indonesia. A modified three-wheel Vespa, the only one in the world, will also be on show. There will also be testimonials and screenings of films on the Vespa, provided by Piaggio Indonesia.
