“Diplomazia e dintorni” – Being a Consul in Europe

The 58th episode of “Diplomazia e dintorni” will be dedicated to what it is like “Being a Consul in Europe” through the testimony of two consuls currently posted in European cities. The episode will be aired by Radio LUISS on Tuesday, 19 April, 2016 at 8 p.m.

Consular activities continue to represent an essential part of the work carried out by diplomats. In the wake of last century’s large emigration flows, Italy has a wide-reaching consular network that shoulders a particularly challenging task in favour of all the Italians living abroad.   What is it like to run a Consulate and what are the problems, large and small, that must be solved on a day-to-day basis? How is the role of Consulates changing in the 21st century? What are the main characteristics and needs of Italian communities in Europe? These and more questions will be answered, via conference call, by the two diplomats invited to the show:  Maurizio Canfora, Consul General in Frankfurt and Michele Camerota, Consul in Basel.
