Kalascima’s tour in India will kick off on Friday. Kalascima is an innovative Italian folk band capable of projecting into modernity the popular music of the Salento area, decontextualizing it from old recitals and barnyard dancing, and ‘regenerates’ it through the use of high-tech. Their first stop will be at New Delhi’s India International Centre and they will move on to Jaipur on Saturday. The tour will continue with a concert in Chennai on April 14 and subsequently in Bengaluru. The band has been performing for over 15 years and its repertory includes urban new folk music, which combines memories of a peasant civilisation totally overhauled by contemporary aesthetics with the sounds and noises enveloping daily life in the 21st century.
Kalascima has performed in many concerts in Italy and abroad, including a tour in Australia in 2012 and 2013, where they participated, as the only Italian band selected, in the Australian World Music Expo (AWME), one of the most important events of reference for Australian and Asian music markets. Again in 2013, they also went on tour in Ecuador, after concerts in Israel, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium. Thanks to their two records, “Santa Maria del Foggiaro” and “Psychedelic Trance Tarantella”, Kalascima is one of the historical groups present at “La Notte della Taranta Festival”.
