As part of the events organised for the Year of Italy in Latin America, the Italian Embassy in Asuncion organised a few days ago – together with the Paraguayan Equestrian Federation and the Club Hipico Paraguayo – the second edition of the Italian Cup, a hurdle race between the best Paraguayan horsemen, ranging from the amateur category (0.60 cm) to the most expert (1.40 m).
The almost 100 athletes greatly appreciated the initiative that is also aimed at supporting the efforts of the large number of young riders that perform this sport, which is deeply rooted in local traditions. The winners of each category were awarded prizes offered by the local representatives of Italian brands. A note released by the Embassy reads: “The idea arose from the will to work with our Paraguayan counterparts in promoting this sport in building a healthier society; a concept underlying last year’s Cooperation Agreement between CONI, the Italian Olympic Committee, and the Paraguayan counterpart and, even more topical, the official presentation of the candidacy of Rome as the venue for the next Olympic Games.”
