Actress and dancer Cristiana Morganti will be in Dublin for the Dublin Dance Festival. Her performance “Jessica and me”, with and by the artist, is scheduled for Friday and Saturday (20-21 May) night at the Project Arts Centre (Space Upstairs). Ms Morganti is the principal dancer of the Pina Bausch Tanztheater of Wuppertal.
In “Do you want me to dance or to talk?”, in “Jessica and Me”, the dancer reveals an irresistible appeal, talent and also a knack for humour. With her wild curls, a contagious laugh and high-heeled shoes, Morganti offers to the audience an irresistible take on her career: from her training in classical ballet to her life-changing encounter with Pina Bausch, the German world-known choreographer and dancer. The show – which, in Dublin, was promoted with the support of the Italian Institute of Culture and of the Goethe-Institut Ireland – is a two-voice self-portrait: her interior self (Cristiana) and her alter-ego (Jessica). Cristina goes from losing herself in a whirl of movements to observing herself from without with proud and incessant humour. The show is a fascinating narrative of the life of a ballet star both on and off the stage.
