Today the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni, chaired the third meeting of the Joint Committee on Development Cooperation, the deliberative body established by the law reforming the Italian Cooperation system. The meeting approved, inter alia, the Invitation to Tender whereby to award, in 2016, contributions to initiatives proposed by social society and non-profit organisations, and 3 resolutions relative to the personnel and the overseas offices of the Italian Development Cooperation Agency.
In addition, the Joint Committee approved voluntary contributions and the contributions earmarked for several international organisations for the implementation of important projects in Ethiopia, Lebanon, Iraq, Bolivia, Libya, Jordan and Tunisia for an overall value of more than 25 million euros.
Today’s meeting is the third in only four months, testifying to the Government’s strong and determined intention to invest in development cooperation as a strategic foreign policy instrument.
Today’s meeting was also attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, of the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea, of the Regional Authority of Sardinia (on behalf of the Italian regional system) and of the Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (Deposits and Loans Fund).
