St. Petersburg – The Italian Saxophone Orchestra at the International musical festival “Palaces of St. Petersburg”

For the International musical festival “Palaces of St. Petersburg”, the Italian Cultural Institute plans to present a cycle of concerts by Italian musicians. The Festival will close at 8 p.m. on 2 July at the Great Hall of Catherine Palace with a concert by the Italian Saxophone Orchestra conducted by Federico Mondelci. The programme includes variations of popular melodies from film soundtracks. The Italian Saxophone Orchestra is made up of 12 sax players and is the only one of the kind in Italy. Since its establishment in 1985, it has performed throughout Italy, receiving broad public acclaim. The orchestra includes all the instruments of the saxophone family: sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass; thanks to its extended width of pitch, this instrument has attracted the interest of many composers of saxophone music. The repertory will span from Renaissance to Classical and Romantic music to modern-day music, including a wide repertory of jazz music.
