A journey across the Arctic sea ice to discover one of the frontiers of Italian and international scientific research. Fourth year students of the Fabio Filzi di Rovereto high-school, left on 20th July for the Svalbard islands and returned to Italy a few days ago after a stop over in Norway. After intense days of trekking, field trips, field measurements and visits to universities and research centres, the students were received by Tommaso Andria, First Advisor to the Italian Embassy in Oslo, who expressed great appreciation for the Reset (Research and Education Svalbard Experience) project thanks to which these students had the opportunity of being the fist class from an Italian school to go on a study tour to the Svalbard Islands, a permanent settlement close to the North Pole. The project was supported by the National Research Council (CNR), by the Autonomous Province of Trento and by the students themselves who raised funds thanks to a crowd-funding campaign that involved citizens and private sponsors. The 20 participants, accompanied by Professors Matteo Cattadori and Domenico Fiorillo and by Federico Giglio from the CNR, raised about 30 thousand euros.
