A humanitarian expedition of the Italian Cooperation service departed on 14 September from the United Nations Logistics Base in Brindisi. The expedition consists of 8 tons of relief supplies – tents, blankets, plastic canopies for temporary shelter, electric generators, first-aid kits – destined to the civilian population of Syria.
The initiative is a concrete expression of solidarity and consideration for the Syrian people, so dramatically hit by the conflict, and follows up on the preceding interventions in response to the humanitarian crisis.
The relief supplies will be distributed in the areas of Aleppo, Idlib and Hama, which are currently under the control of opposition forces.
Italian Cooperation’s financial commitment for the Syrian crisis has totaled over 118 million euros since the beginning of the conflict.
