Singapore – The Italian Cultural Institute presents ‘the Elena Ferrante phenomenon’ in Singapore

‘The Elena Ferrante fever’ lands  in Singapore: the Italian Cultural Institute (IIC) in Singapore will organize a lecture by Jennifer Gargiulo, Ph.D., Lecturer at the Singapore Yale-Nus College, entitled “The Elena Ferrante Phenomenon: The Power of Translation and the Desire for Anonymity.” The event will take place at the Arts House in Singapore on 16 February.

The Italian writer, known by her pen-name Elena Ferrante, is one of the most recent global literary sensations. The four books of her “My Brilliant Friend” saga sold millions of copies worldwide, receiving enthusiastic reviews as well as criticism. The author, who chose to maintain her anonymity, was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people on the planet.

Jennifer Gargiulo will focus on Ferrante’s original narrative, the power of Anne Goldstein’ translations that have made Ferrante popular internationally, and the desire for anonymity the author has been determined to defend since the start.
