Minister Alfano: “Let us build a better Europe”

“Let us build a better Europe. While celebrating the extraordinary results achieved by the  European integration process, Italy stands with England after the tragic events in London, and commits to build a more prosperous and safer Europe, capable of meeting the new challenges of our time. We have come to know peace thanks to Europe, but peace and freedom must not be taken for granted. We must defend and safeguard them. And one cannot defend and uphold something that one does not want. Hence, we must strongly want them, even if, precisely thanks to Europe, we have known nothing else. Let us fuel this desire, and may it become increasingly stronger and unwaivable.”

On the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, underlined the importance of this historic event and the need to persevere in building a safer and more prosperous Europe. Minister Alfano will participate in Pope Francis’s private audience scheduled for today, who will receive the 27 Heads of State and Government of the EU. Tomorrow, the Minister will attend the debate on the ‘Rome Declaration’ which will take place at Rome’s Capitol.
