On Monday, 10 April 2017, the Farnesina hosts the Conference “Migrations and Development”, organised by the Italian Development Cooperation Agency, and to be opened by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mario Giro.
The main theme of the event and the primary objective of Italian Development Cooperation is uprooting poverty, reducing inequalities, improving people’s living conditions and promoting sustainable and inclusive development.
The first session, chaired and moderated by the Director General of Development Cooperations, Pietro Sebastiani, includes contributions by Giampiero Gramaglia on the connection between development and migration, Paola Alvarez of the International Organisation for Migration and Luigi Maria Vignali, Principal Director for Migration Policies and Visas of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), who will speak on how the Fund for Africa is instrumental to establishing partnerships on migration management.
The second session will be chaired by the Director of the Italian Development Cooperation Agency (AICS), Laura Frigenti. It will focus on the testimony of civil society organisations and on several virtuous examples of the engagement of the private sector, especially in key aspects in combating the deep-set cause of migration, such as agriculture, water resources and energy.
