Brazil: tenders for railway licences and gas distribution expected in the coming months

As part of the Brazilian Government’s investment programme, tenders are expected to be published in the next few months for licences to operate two railway lines: the Norte-Sul, with two sections running from Acailandia to Estrela d’Oeste, and Ferrograo, to be built from scratch, connecting Sinop to Miritituba. Bids are expected to be presented during the second half of this year.

According to the announcement, a 65-year licence will be assigned to operate the Ferrogro line and at least 30 years of exclusivity are guaranteed after completion of the work. The total value is estimated at 12.6 billion reais (3.7 billion euros). For the Norte-Sul railway, a total investment of between 1 and 1.5 billion reais (around 400 million euros) is planned, with the contract likely to last for 35 years.

Furthermore, as part of the Privatisation Programme of the National Bank for Economic and Social Development, total or partial sales of the stakes owned by 7 Brazilian states in natural gas distribution companies have been announced. The auctions are expected to take place in the second half of 2018.
