“Germany for us is an extremely important partner with which, besides holding very intense bilateral relations, we also share a staunchly pro-European vocation and responsibility that derives from both being among the founding members of the EU. We must leverage the current signs of economic recovery and the cohesion shown up to now in the common response to Brexit to relaunch the construction of an ‘ever-closer Union’ and ever-closer to its citizens, having economic growth and the regulation of the migration phenomenon among its priorities.”
The statement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Angelino Alfano, during the meeting at the Farnesina with his German counterpart Sigmar Gabriel. The talks between the two foreign ministers also focused on bilateral relations, the EU, Milan’s candidacy to host the EMA, migration policies, Russia, Turkey, Libya and Iran.
