CANADA – ENEL awarded tender for renewable energy

For the first time in Canada, the ENEL Group, through its US-based renewables subsidiary Enel Green Power North America Inc. (“EGP-NA”), has won a tender from the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) for renewable energy. It was awarded two 20-year contracts to supply energy from two new wind farms of 115 MW and 30.6 MW.  The total investment is about 170 million US dollars, and the wind farms are due to enter operation by 2019. AESO launched this first tender under its Renewable Electricity Program, part of the government of Alberta’s Climate Leadership Plan to create a more cost-efficient, reliable, cleaner energy system.  The programme is to develop 5,000 MW of renewable energy generation capacity to be connected to the grid by 2030.
