Sparkle starring at the Global Carrier Awards 2020 with four awards
At the Global Carrier Awards (GCA) ceremony to celebrate the achievements of the global wholesale sector over the past year, Sparkle received the “Best Middle East Africa Project”, “Best Americas Project”, “Best Data Centre” and “Best 5G Deployment” awards. This is the highest number of awards given to a single company this year and an absolute record for Sparkle. The GCAs represent the major awards in the global telecommunications industry.
The winners were selected by an authoritative jury of over twenty leading figures from consulting and research companies, media and industry associations.
With the “Best Middle East Africa Project” the jury awarded Sparkle for its Point of Presence in Aqaba, a new gravitational hub in the Middle East region and strategic corridor between Jordan, neighbouring countries and Europe.
The “Best Americas Project” rewards the expansion of the American backbone and the strengthening of routes in the Pacific with a new pair of fibres on the Curie submarine cable system connecting Chile to the United States.
The “Best Data Centre” recognises the company’s continued global expansion with the construction of a new data centre in Athens, Greece. The facility, called Metamorfosis II, which is scheduled for completion and entry into service in early 2021, will provide the country with one of Europe’s largest and most advanced green data centres.
Finally, with the “Best 5G Deployment” victory for enabling a 5G data roaming interconnection between Etisalat in the United Arab Emirates and TIM in Italy, the first between Europe and the Middle East, Sparkle has demonstrated its pioneering role in 5G roaming by positioning itself as a reference partner for the sector.
