Italian Economic Diplomacy 3 November: latest news from around the world

Norway. VARD secures a contract to design and build a state-of-the-art fishing boat.

VARD Shipyards, a subsidiary of Fincantieri, have signed an agreement to design and build a deep sea fishing boat, commissioned by the Russian Company, Luntos Co. Ltd.
This is the second fishing boat commissioned by Luntos, who awarded VARD a contract in 2019 to design and build a first fishing boat, the handover of which is planned for 2021. Luntos operates out of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatka, with a fleet that plies both the most fishing areas of eastern Russia, and the western Bering Sea.
This new ship, which is 87 metres long and 18 metres across the beam was designed specifically for Luntos. Its innovative design will ensure great sustainability and operating efficiency, while at the same time offering high performance, even in extreme weather conditions.
The fishing boat’s design combines a safe, comfortable, modern working environment for crew members, with cutting-edge systems for catching, packaging, and preserving fish on board.
Its freezing capacity will be 210 tonnes per day. In order to make better use of the offal, the ship is fitted with a plant for producing fish flour, which is used as fodder in both zootechnics and aquaculture, with a capacity of 50 tonnes per day.
VARD will build the fishing boat at the Vard Vung Tau Shipyard in Vietnam, with only some of the finishing works being done in Norway. Handover of the ship is planned for the third quarter of 2022.
