Africa Day – Conference to mark the anniversary of the establishment of the African Union

Africa Day is held on 25 May, each year, to celebrate the establishment of the Organisation of African Unity on 25 May 1963, in Addis Ababa, which became the African Union in 2002.

To mark the occasion, a “Conference on the anniversary of the establishment of the African Union” has been organised at Palazzo Montecitorio, one of the Italian Chambers of Parliament, and opens today, at 15:30, with a speech by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi Di Maio.

There will be speeches by institutional representatives of international organisations and African states, as well as by representatives of the private sector and of Italian civil society working on the front line in Africa, particularly on health protection issues.
