ILSA, the leading private high-speed rail operator in Spain, has awarded Hitachi Rail España a full-service contract worth EUR737 million over 30 years to maintain its fleet of 20 new ETR 1000 trains.
The fleet will enter into service in the second half of 2022 and operate on the high-speed lines connecting Madrid with Barcelona, Valencia, Alicante, Seville, Malaga and Cordoba. It is manufactured by Hitachi Rail and Alstom Group (for the former Bombardier Italia share) at the Hitachi Rail site in Pistoia.
Hitachi Rail Spa was established as the result of the evolution of AnsaldoBreda, the most important Italian brand with over 160 years of history in the railway and underground railway sector. Today it has around 4,000 employees in Italy, operating between the three plants dedicated to the production of rolling stock (Naples, Pistoia, and Reggio Calabria) and the four sites devoted to the design, development and certification of signalling systems and turnkey projects (Genoa, Naples, Piossasco and Tito Scalo).
