In January 2020, North Macedonia adopted the Law on Strategic Investments, which provides incentives and state subsidies for investment projects deemed of strategic importance for the country. A call for the submission of projects has recently been issued, with the deadline of 31 January 2022. In particular, interested companies can submit their applications to obtain strategic status for any of their projects, which also allows for direct contract awards. Projects that make a significant contribution to the country’s economic growth, create a substantial number of jobs and introduce new technologies capable of boosting the country’s production capacity will be considered of strategic importance.
Investments must be for at least EUR 50 million in urban areas or EUR 30 million in rural areas. The priority sectors are: energy and infrastructure, transport and telecommunications, tourism, manufacturing, food processing, health, agriculture, technology and industrial parks, waste water management, information technology and digital solutions, science and sport.
