Italy’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi di Maio, is to attend the Informal Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the European Union in Brest – Gymnich.
Scheduled under the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the meeting will focus on the main current international developments and on foreign and security issues with a strategic bearing on EU policy.
Proceedings kick off with a joint working session attended by the Ministers of Defence of the Member States of the European Union to address the EU’s “Strategic Compass” in the lead-up to its approval at the European Council in March.
At the informal meeting ministers will also address security issues in the ENP-East region, with a special emphasis on ongoing events in the Ukraine and Belarus and the current challenges they both pose.
Ministers will also tackle strategic approaches to China and the Africa-EU Partnership. Between sessions, Italy’s Foreign Minister Di Maio will hold a number of bilateral meetings
