Minister Antonio Tajani took the floor at the international conference “Beyond development, the future we want”, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the AVSI Foundation.

“Development cooperation – the Minister said – helps us achieve goals such as peace, stability, prosperity and rights, which are the foundations of an inclusive society and which can foster the development of trade, investments, employment and entrepreneurship. Cooperation – he added – also means preserving stability, security and prosperity in Italy and in Europe, while consolidating relations with countries in regions that are politically, economically and commercially strategic”.

Delivering his speech, the Minister pointed out that the solid collaboration between AVSI Foundation and the Farnesina focuses on sectors such as education and health and, in the humanitarian sphere, on agriculture and food security, on child protection, on professional training and employment.

“Africa and Latin America – the Minister added – expect a lot from us and we cannot miss this opportunity to cooperate with fragile peoples, with our brothers, so as to generate employment and freedom. Inequalities, the food crisis and climate change are all common challenges. We must face them as a community, preserving human dignity”.

“We all strive for peace – the Minister stressed, referring to Ukraine – but, as Saint John Paul II said, ‘there can be no peace without justice’, and in this case, that justice is Ukrainian sovereignty”.

The Minister also mentioned the dramatic stories told by the women, who had suffered unspeakable violence, staying at the UNHCR centre in Niger. “This must never happen again”, he pointed out.
