Minister Terzi hails Jordanian initiative in favour of MidEast peace process

Italy warmly and confidently welcomes Jordan’ s initiative to host two meetings tomorrow aimed at restarting the peace process. This is Minister for Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi’s comment on the two meetings, one between Israeli and Palestinian negotiators and the Quartet envoys, and a second one between the Israeli and Palestinian representatives that Jordanian Foreign Minister Judeh will host tomorrow in Amman.

“Along with my own personal appreciation for Jordan’s commitment, once again confirming its historic role as a sincere promoter of regional peace and stability”, Minister Terzi continued, “I also wish to express my deep hope that the parties are able to seize this precious opportunity with courage and the necessary constructive attitude”.

“It is highly encouraging”, the head of Italian diplomacy asserted, “that the Quartet is confirming its pivotal role in favouring the resumption of those direct negotiations that, in the terms and timelines stated in the Declaration issued on September 23rd, are the only instrument to achieve stable and enduring peace”.

“That is why”, Terzi pointed out, “Italy has been so strongly engaged over recent months in supporting the Quartet and the EU High Representative’s efforts to reopen a credible perspective for reviving the peace process”.
