The new Head of Mission of the League of Arab States in Italy, Ambassador Al-Shibli, presented his Letters of Credentials to Minister Terzi at the Foreign Ministry today, 17 April 2012.

Today’s ceremony marked a significant new procedure and is an important signal of the increasingly close relations between Italy and the Arab League. It took place just a few days from the meeting in Cairo by Prime Minister Monti and Secretary General El-Araby, the first visit by an Italian Premier to the Arab League’s headquarters.

In today’s regional context, the Arab League is playing an increasingly important role and for Italy is a vital interlocutor and provides a key forum for dialogue with the Arab world. Its strong commitment to the democratic transformation process in Libya and to resolving the Syrian crisis is greatly appreciated by out country. So too is the League’s traditional activism in revitalising the Peace Process.
