The Foreign Ministry closely monitoring developments surrounding contracts for the supply of “Fyra” high-speed trains

The Foreign Ministry is closely monitoring developments surrounding contracts for the supply of “Fyra” high-speed trains awarded by the Belgian Railways (NMBS) and Dutch Railways (NS) to AnsaldoBreda of the Gruppo Finmeccanica, and subsequently suspended in a unilateral decision by the clients.

On Minister Bonino’s instructions, the Foreign Ministry intervened through its embassies in Brussels and The Hague to promote and protect the interests of the Italian firm vis à vis the authorities of those countries, and to express its firm hope that a positive and timely solution would be forthcoming. In the course of the diplomatic steps taken over recent days, it was pointed out that the V250 train in question had already been granted the international certification envisaged by law and that authorisation for its placement in service had been issued in compliance with all legal rules and certifications.
