Nicola Piovani e l’Orchestra Italiana del Cinema: la colonna sonora ufficiale dell’Anno della Cultura Italiana negli Stati Uniti diventa un video

A new soundtrack has been composed by maestro Nicola Piovani to celebrate the Year of Italian Culture in the USA. Entitled “Allegretto Made in Italy”, the score, for symphony orchestra, was performed by the Italian Film Orchestra. It was produced with the collaboration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian Embassy and Italian Cultural Institute in Washington, the Directorate General for Film at the Ministry for Culture and Tourism, and ENIT, Italy’s tourism board. The video was also sponsored by Sorgente Group, a real estate and investment group operating in various European countries and in the USA.

Music is a vital part of the Italian national identity, says Ambassador Bisogniero

“Music is a vital part of the Italian national identity”, as the Italian Ambassador to the United States, Claudio Bisogniero, pointed out. We are truly grateful to maestro Piovani and the Italian Film Orchestra for composing and performing the soundtrack to the Year of Italian Culture in the USA. The initiative has proved to be a great success, with more than 200 events in over 50 American cities”.

“E pluribus unum”

The soundtrack will be publicised through a video produced by Marco Patrignani and Roberto Volpe and directed by Christian Letruria. As Letruria commented, “Our aim was to link the ‘choral’ concept of the orchestra with the variety of landscapes in the Italian peninsula. Moreover, ‘E pluribus unum’ is one of the mottoes inspiring the United States. The video shows scenes of individual musicians from the Italian Film Orchestra performing in locations that are symbolic of Italy, alternating with aerial shots illustrating the beauty of our country”.

These aerial shots are taken from the “Magnifica Italia” collection, by kind concession of Tecnomovie. “The most fascinating and impressive images of Italy I have ever seen…”, commented film director Francis Ford Coppola.

The video will be available through the Year of Italian Culture in the USA portal (www.ITALYinUS2013.org) and will be publicised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian Embassy and Italian Cultural Institute in Washington, our diplomatic-consular network in the United States, the Directorate General for Film at the Ministry for Culture and Tourism, and ENIT, Italy’s national tourism board.
