EU: Mogherini to Lajčák, Presidency focused on growth

The priorities of the Italian Presidency of the EU were the focus of a meeting today between Minister Federica Mogherini and her Slovakian colleague Miroslav Lajčák.

Mogherini pointed out investments in economic growth as central to the agenda. They then discussed immigration, which Lajčák underscored as a clear example of the need for European solidarity. Both ministers expressed the hope that the appointments to the top European institutional positions would take place as rapidly as possible in order to send a sign to the European public. They agreed on completion of the Western Balkans integration and on the need to keep the channels of dialogue with Russia open, not least in the hopes of finding a solution to the Ukraine crisis.
