“In the name of the Italian government, I extend my congratulations to the Iraqi people on the recent election of president Fouad Masum, speaker of the Parliament Salim Al-Jubouri and his deputies, to whom I offer my best wishes in their new and important posts”, declared Deputy Foreign Minister Lapo Pistelli, who is scheduled to make a visit to Iraq in a few days.
“These early and significant steps in the formation of a new federal government are in the legitimate interests of the entire Iraqi population”, the deputy minister added, underscoring also that “Italy supports the democratic institutions and aspirations of all the country’s communities at a moment such as this in which the future of Iraq and its cultural patrimony is at stake”.
