UN: Minister Mogherini at Women for EXPO 2015

Minister Mogherini today closes “Feeding the Planet – Empowering women: the food and nutrition security challenge. Beijng+ 20 – Women for EXPO 2015”, an event being held in the margins of the opening of the 69th General Assembly, and moderated by newly-appointed coordinator for the UN’s “Scaling up Nutrition” movement Tom Arnold. Speakers will include Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs the Hon. Hannah Tetteh, Executive Director of the World Food Program Ertharin Cousin, the Director General of the International Development Law Organization and Deputy Director of UN Women, Lakshimi Puri.

The discussion will centre on food security, a still distant goal considering the fact that a billion people are still suffering from chronic hunger. Special attention will be reserved for women, in the knowledge that this goal will never be reached if their conditions in many countries are not improved. The event is part of the “Women for EXPO” initiative and an integral part of the UN’s “Beijing+20” campaign.
