Risoluzione ONU sull’eliminazione dei matrimoni precoci e forzati

Italy expressed satisfaction with the adoption by consensus in the Third Commission of the UN General Assembly of a resolution on the elimination of child, early and forced marriages.

The Italian government was among the supporters of the resolution, which was sustained by 118 co-sponsors and is the first to confront the problem of early and forced marriages, a practice that violates the rights of millions of minors, for the most part female. The General Assembly is expected to adopt the document in December.

Italy thus reaffirms its traditional commitment to defending the rights of women and children, witnessed also by the campaign against female genital mutilation.
