Gentiloni: meeting with Turkish Minister for European Affairs

Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni received the Turkish Minister for European Affairs Volkan Bozkir today at the Farnesina.

The meeting focused on Turkey’s European prospects, which Bozkir confirmed were a national priority and for which Gentiloni reiterated Italy’s support.

The two ministers underscored the excellent status of bilateral relations, confirming that Italy had maintained its 4th-place ranking among Turkey’s trade partners. “We are highly satisfied with the level of economic cooperation our two countries have achieved”, Gentiloni asserted, adding that “there are still wide margins for strengthening them, and major potential that many Italian firms are interested in tapping”.

The meeting also offered an opportunity for an exchange of views on principal international concerns, particularly the situations in Libya, Syria and Iraq and migration, themes on which the ministers found themselves in broad agreement.
