Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni received Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Kosovo Hashim Thaci today at the Farnesina.
The meeting offered an opportunity to note the positive status of bilateral relations, concretely underscoring our commitment to the NATO (KFOR) and EU (EULEX) missions currently under Italian leadership.
In expressing the hope that Pristina will continue to adopt the reforms required by the EU, Gentiloni confirmed “Italy’s full support for Kosovo’s European aspirations”. “Strengthening the rule of law, along with detailed and effective promotion, will also encourage Italian investments,” the minister said, confirming “our businesses’ interest in Kosovo and that of the Italian government in more intense bilateral collaboration, particularly in economic and commercial areas”.
The head of the Farnesina also praised Kosovo’s participation in the fight against international terrorism within the context of the anti-Daesh coalition.
Finally, Gentiloni expressed appreciation for Pristina’s commitment to dialogue with Belgrade, urging “pursuance of this route, with the goal of rapidly achieving concrete results and finalising agreements on crucial sectors and issues such as energy and transport and the Association of Serbian Municipalities in northern Kosovo”.
