Minister Gentiloni receives new UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi

Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Paolo Gentiloni met at the Farnesina today with UN High Commissioner for Refugees appointee Filippo Grandi. Their meeting offered an opportunity for an exchange of views on migration and on the contribution Italy could make to its management through increasingly close collaboration with the UNHCR.

“Grandi’s appointment is recognition of Italian excellence with regard to highly delicate and priority items on the political agenda of governments such as the issue of refugees, as well as of Italy’s approach to managing a crisis that is affecting three continents and whose effects we are experiencing daily in Europe”, stated Minister Gentiloni.

“Grandi is the right person to be placed at the highest level on this global question, and he is assured”, the minister concluded, “as the UNHCR has always been, of Italy’s committed support”.
