Istanbul bombing: Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni calls his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu

Following this morning’s bombing, Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni called his Turkish counterpart, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, to express Italy’s closeness and sympathy for the victims, their families and the Turkish government.

“Italy and Turkey are more than ever committed to combating terrorism,” Mr Gentiloni said. The Turkish Foreign Minister informed Mr Gentiloni that the government does not yet have detailed information on the bombing and its consequences. The Italian Foreign Ministry’s Crisis Management Unit is working in close contact with the Italian Consulate General in Istanbul, in order to confirm the details of the incident, as is customary in a case such as this.
