Gentiloni: meets Finnish Foreign Minister

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Paolo Gentiloni, received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland, Timo Soini, at the Farnesinatoday.

Talks focused on the excellent bilateral relations between the two Countries. Mr Gentiloni stressed the natural complementarity of the Italian and Finnish production systems, in the hope of boosting the already sizable trade flows and investments and of establishing synergies in developing start-ups. Broad margins for strengthening bilateral cooperation also exist in the sector of scientific research and in particular in the Arctic, where Italy and Finland are already significantly collaborating in the satellite monitoring of ice formation and movements in the Baltic Sea and in most of the Arctic region.

The meeting also presented the opportunity to make an overview of the major issues in international current events of common interest, including the migration crisis, Daesh, counter-terrorism and the future of the EU.
